Exploratory analysis and presenting insights
This assignment starts with a business scenario. To address the challenges presented in
the scenario, you’ll
use SQL and Excel to identify insights through data analysis.
You’ll help key stakeholders make data-informed
decisions by creating a Tableau
dashboard to describe your findings and to communicate insights.
By the end of this course you’ll be able to:
Utilise Python to collect and import large amounts of complex data through various approaches, including web scraping techniques and APIs.
Utilise Python to wrangle data for effective analysis.
Complete advanced analytical processes to determine critical business insights from data sets.

You’ll tackle real business problems and learn to justify strategic recommendations using best practices and advanced data-analytic techniques. You’ll delve into regression analysis, which is crucial for understanding relationships between variables and predicting trends – and an invaluable tool for market forecasting and risk assessment. Classification will be another key focus, enabling you to categorise data effectively, which is essential in applications like customer segmentation and fraud detection. Finally, you’ll explore clustering methods, perfect for uncovering hidden patterns in data, a technique often used in market analysis and customer insight discovery.
Week 1: Predicting business outcomes with regression
Week 2: Introduction to supervised learning: Logistic regression and decision trees

Week 6: Making recommendations to the business

Watch a demo video from week 5 on data manipulation with R, featuring Dr Milt Mavrakakis Guest Lecturer in Statistics at LSE, and one of your Course Convenors.
Predicting future outcomes
This assignment presents a challenging business scenario looking at predicting future
outcomes. You’ll use
Python and R to perform the exploratory data analysis, after
which you’ll apply advanced algorithmic and
statistical modelling techniques to
predict future outcomes for the business. Based on the analysis, you’ll
make
recommendations and present your findings.
After completing the third course, you’ll be introduced to the Employer Partner and briefed on the Employer Project. This is your opportunity to work on a live business challenge while you collaborate with a team of peers, apply your newly acquired knowledge and network with industry employers.
The Employer Project is:
Unique for each presentation of the programme
Your personal
experience of this Career Accelerator will be unique because the Employer Partner
you work with is specific to your intake, as is the project.
Based on genuine employer needs and interests
In some
cases, you’ll address a challenge the employer currently faces and you might work
with the company’s own data. You may also be presented with a client scenario and a
problem to solve.
Designed to reflect the practical skills required in a data analyst
role
Practise the methods and techniques used for analysis, the quality and format
of project deliverables and the communication skills necessary for the final
presentation.
The highlights of taking the programme were the practical aspects of it – so having that direct industry input from FourthRev and being able to work on an actual Employer Project. Being able to show that on a CV and be able to talk about it in job interviews later was definitely invaluable
